Mental health is one of the biggest contributors to absence. The CIPD/Simplyhealth Health and Well-Being at Work report 2018 revealed that in over a fifth of organisations, mental ill health is the primary cause of long-term absence.
To address issues like mental health related absence, organisations need to have a strategy in place to promote mental health. Royal Mail Group is an excellent example of an organisation designing and implementing a mental health strategy.
Aligned to the findings from the CIPD report, Royal Mail Group’s largest cause of long-term absence was mental health. With a male dominated workforce made up of over 140,000 people, creating a strategy to best support mental health was a complex challenge.
